Shot Notes

The Astronomer is built from the remains of a Yale Columbia Refractor telescope; built in 1924,  installed at Mt Stromlo in 1952 and destroyed in a fire storm in 2003. Tim Weatherell created this stunning stargazer from the rusted remnants, while a busy bird has added a contrasting flourish (or perhaps it was a food drop from the small plane, seen leaving the scene at bottom left). I took the photo in the late afternoon on the shady side of the building, which favoured rendition in black and white. My PENultimate shot comes in at ISO200, f7.1, 1/160 at 29mm.
