Shot Notes
The Gold Coast is as much about the high rise as it is about the beach, these days. There are a couple of locations where this alarming combination can be captured with drama and beauty. Here we are at Burleigh, near Mermaids Café. The Café is built out over the rocks looking north with a view of the broad sweep past North Burleigh, Nobby Beach, Mermaid Beach and Broadbeach to Surfers Paradise. I used to work at Mermaid Beach and cycle to a spot, further out the headland, at lunch time and then head back the other way. Here the PEN was my friend when a shower or two cut in from Pacific washing the streets of Surfers, away in the distance, putting a shine on the rocks near at hand and failing to phase the board riders and bathers. Here the sun is lurking brightly to foreground, allowing a combination of settings which mute the harsh light and accentuate the warm colours of the day.
